OUR ENVIRONMENTAL STRATEGY
WASTE:
FOOD WASTE
All waste bread is given to local farmers as animal feed, none goes to landfill.
Other food waste is composted to be converted into gas for energy and fertiliser
NON-FOOD WASTE
70% of all non-food waste is recyclable
PACKAGING:
We use reusable or recyclable delivery trays for deliveries to our own shops and wholesale customers; which are returned to the bakery for cleaning or controlled recycling.
Our suppliers deliver their goods (whenever possible) in reusable or recyclable containers; i.e. milk churns, egg boxes, oil containers and flour sacks.
80% of all our packaging is recyclable or compostable.
ENERGY:
Bakery has LED low energy lighting.
Surplus heat from our ovens used to heat the Bakery.
The ovens are 80% electric & 20% wood fired.
Delivery routes are carefully planned to minimize fuel consumption.
SUPPLIERS & COMMUNITY:
We purchase locally wherever possible from farmers and craftsmen; including our cheeses, milk, eggs, some of our flours, sausage meat, beer, honey, oils and grains.
FUTURE STRATEGIES:
Delivery Vans – 100% Electric
Solar Panels are being installed in both New & Existing Bakery
Renewable Energy – Only Green Energy through local suppliers
Replacing the 300,000 plastic slicing bags when a practical version is available.
Windows for cake boxes to be compostable (recyclable)
Linen Bread & Baguette Bags – reusable & washable bread bags will be available by the end of the year.
New Ideas & Feedback are always welcome
